In October 2016, I received a commission to create a large-scale wall relief for a dominoes-themed exhibition. I made a Rube-Goldberg-inspired series of angled shelves supporting enlarged silhouettes and objects pulled from various games (chess, Mousetrap, Monopoly, a scopa deck). The balls, dominoes, house of cards and miniature Rubix cubes are positioned on the shelves to suggest an imminent chain reaction towards an uncertain end. The title is a reference to Goldberg’s cartoon mechanical engineer, a character known for devising elaborate contraptions that ultimately perform simple tasks.
